Schools Open – Busing delays expected – Thursday, January 18

WINTER WEATHER UPDATE: Thursday, January 18 at 5:40 am

Although winter weather conditions are present throughout the Cowichan Valley, ALL SCHOOLS ARE OPEN and BUSES ARE RUNNING but delays in pickup are to be expected.

Bus delays are especially likely at Old Lake Cowichan Road, Koksilah, Somenos, and Halalt due to poor road conditions.  Please keep an eye on the Ride 360 app for further busing updates.

Please give some extra space near the active bus stops and with our buses on the roads to help ensure our students are safe as they wait this morning.

School sites may have some residual ice and our operations crews have been out across the district working to ensure sites are being prepared. Please be mindful of this as you come to school.

We will be continuing to closely monitor the weather over the course of the day.

The safety of our students is always our first priority, and we make the best decisions we can with the information we have available at the time. Our team has been on the road since very early this morning checking areas across our district to ensure that conditions are right for opening schools. Parents encouraged to keep safety in mind when determining whether to take your child(ren) to school in the event the district is open during winter weather conditions. As always, It is your prerogative to keep them home if you feel it is the safest choice.

Thank you
